Today, I have been mostly using...

...Flash Classes

Jeeeeeeez, today's been one busy day, and the rest of the week is shaping up much the same. As mentioned in last post, I'm working on a custom Flash build for UFI.

Anyway to the point of the post. For this flash build we've been using a new class library (Casalib), so thought I'd share it with you all, it's well worth downloading, and it's FREE. (Click here)

I'll hopefully be posting some W.I.P shots/animations of the build over the next few days.

Missing Flash on the Beach :-(

All  this week Flash on the Beach is running just down the road from my office. I had guest passes for one show yesterday and two today, however... I've got too much work on with a custom Flash build this week for UFI meaning I'm office bound and not been able to attend! Ahhhhh, I'm gutted!

Technics update 24/09

So... Modelings not over... Me being me...Inpatient, was in a rush to finish modeling and move onto the next stage.

I posted my W.I.P in this thread (Click here) and got some excellent feedback on how to improve the model. So I have start teh base mesh from scratch. This time instead of box modeling I created the base mesh using nGon splines so I could get all of the holes in correctly. I'd not used this method of modeling before, so was good learning new techniques.

Anyway, here's some of the latest W.I.P shots.

Technics update 16/09_b

another hours work this eve...

Technics update 16/09

Half an hours work over lunch today...

I've re-shaped certain elements of the arm to match more closely the real thing.

Here's a clay render of progress.
I'm struggling to get the settings right for the black gloss plastic correct. So that's my task for tonight, in the mean time, back to proper work.

Technics update 15/09

Had a bit more time to work on this tonight. Wasn't happy with how the arm was looking so started it from scratch.

Still some work to do on it, hopefully will get some time tomorrow to continue.

Have been playing with baking out normal maps for the dials over lunch today, to no avail. I've managed to get teh normals baked, but not to show up on the model yet :-(. Hopefully will crack this tomorrow.

Techincs update 13/09 b

Whoooooo...

Finally sorted out the rivets around the plate. Had to start from scratch and replace them all, but am quite happy with the result.

Also spent about an hour fleshing out the mesh for the arm base, and tweaking the metal material.

Technics update 13/09

Another hours work today over lunch break.

Worked a bit more on the arm, and arm housing. Plus a few minor tweaks to the shell mesh, to accommodate the arm housing.

Having a real issue with the plate rivets showing up, as you can see in the renders, not all the rivets are showing up. I've tried everything and can't seem to figure it out. Arghhhh!

Technics update 10/09

Another update on the turntables.

About 45mins work over lunch break, added the final few buttons, then made a start on the arm. Also started a quick material test for the matte plastic and metal.

I'm struggling to find any good ref images for the arm base, so i think i'm going to struggle more than I first thought.

Just added the rivets to the turntable to (only shown in images above)

Haven't had much time to work on this today, about 15 mins work over lunch. Fleshed out the shape of the casing a bit more, added feet, fader and button.

Onto the arm tomorrow hopefully.

Technics W.I.P.

This is a lunchtime project I'm working on to improve my modeling skills, as well as fill my lunch breaks devoid of smoking.

I'm modeling a technics turntable (see here). Currently just fleshing out the main parts, around an hours work so far. I want to get a really clean mesh, and avoid using the 'boolean' tool at all costs, so I'm taking my time with planning my mesh out.

Here's an early shot (around 45mins work):

As you can see still a lot to do, I'm looking forward to getting stuck into modeling the arm, I think it's going to really test my modeling skills.

More updates to come as they happen...

RYA - e-learning

One project I'm working on at the moment is for the RYA. I've been developing a number of 3D graphics to include in the e-learning course such as; bouys, boats and helicopters.

Here's a few renders and screen grabs of the renders in the course.

Edition skateboard designs

Whoooo, first post...

My mate is in the process of setting up his first company, specialising in selling skate hardware.

He's asked me to come up with a few designs for him, centering around the convergence of urban and nature.

Here are some of my initial sketches.

Welcome one and all

Hello world....

Well I thought that it was about time that I started blogging... The reason... Why not, everyone else seems to be doing it.

I'll be using the blog space to post my current work, both from my day job (e-learning developer@ Kineo, Brighton) and my personal and freelance work, as well as my general rants and day to day life.

Hope you enjoy...
